MAUSOLEUM RULES AND REGULATIONS of The Catholic Cemeteries Association of the Diocese of Pittsburgh
- The purchaser of a crypt does not acquire a fee-simple interest in the property, but the right of entombment therein.
- No entombment shall be permitted in the mausoleum until such time as full payment has been received for the crypt space to be used.
- Crypts and niches may be used for the entombment of human remains only. A maximum of one entombment and one inurnment (cremated remains), or two inurnments is permitted in a single crypt. Multiple crypt arrangements will follow the policy established for single crypts, i.e., a maximum of four entombments is permitted in a double crypt arrangement, etc.
- Since all diocesan cemeteries are operated by The Catholic Cemeteries Association of the Diocese of Pittsburgh, entombments and interments are provided primarily for members of the Catholic faith. Burial of non-Catholics will be permitted under the conditions set forth by the Diocese of Pittsburgh.
- Ground space in any diocesan cemetery may be exchanged as partial payment on mausoleum crypts with the approval of The Catholic Cemeteries Association. A Release for the graves being exchanged shall be signed by the purchaser (owner) and the easement (deed/title) to the space must be returned to the cemetery.
- If a person wishes to purchase a crypt for the entombment of a family member already buried, a Removal/Transfer fee must be paid. Other expenses not directly assessed by The Catholic Cemeteries Association may also be incurred at the time of transfer. A properly executed Removal Application must be completed and approved by The Catholic Cemeteries Association prior to the transfer.
- Assignment of use or transfer of ownership of any crypt space shall be subject to the Rules and Regulations of The Catholic Cemeteries Association at all times, and no crypt or interest therein shall be transferred or assigned without the consent of The Catholic Cemeteries Association.
- The entombment fees and crypt-front lettering charges are separate and distinct from the purchase price of the crypt itself and shall he determined by The Catholic Cemeteries Association.
- Lettering on all crypt fronts is to be uniform as determined by The Catholic Cemeteries Association. All lettering, emblems, vases and photoceramics ordered for and placed on the crypt front must comply with the specifications set forth by The Catholic Cemeteries Association.
- Other than the approved lettering, vases, emblems and photoceramics, no decoration of any crypt front will be permitted. This policy is strictly enforced to avoid possible damage to the marble or granite crypt front and to preserve the inherent beauty of the mausoleum.
- Potted plants and fresh cut flowers are strictly prohibited in the mausoleum and will be removed promptly.
- All diocesan chapel mausoleum buildings are open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Holiday hours may vary. Please check with your cemetery office regarding holiday hours.
- Extended visitation hours are available in mausolea equipped with a keypad entry system. The cemetery office will provide confidential access codes to those families who wish to visit the mausoleum after 4:00 p.m. The mausoleum access code will allow entry to the building seven days a week until 6:00 p.m. during Eastern Standard Time and until 7:00 p.m. during Daylight Savings Time. Please contact the cemetery office for more information.
- At various times during the year, services are celebrated in or near our Chapel Mausoleums. The dates are announced sufficiently ahead of schedule to allow those interested to attend.
- These provisions may be amended, deleted or added to at any time deemed appropriate by the management of The Catholic Cemeteries Association for the good and proper management of our diocesan mausoleum buildings.
The Catholic Cemeteries Association of the Diocese of Pittsburgh seeks to maintain the beauty and integrity of our mausoleums for you today and for future generations. With your continuing help and cooperation, we can work together to achieve a memorial of lasting beauty and respectful dignity for our faithful departed.
